josef is a piece which explores the interaction of colour both sonically and visually, inspired by the work of Josef Albers. This work was originally produced for the Immersive Audio Conference, Everyday is Spatial, held at the University of Gloucestershire in 2022. This work uses spatiality to highlight a spectator’s individual perceptual experience, by transforming the work’s situated environment into a conceptual extension of its unfolding colours. Sonically, this was achieved by splitting a complex sound into its harmonic partials and positioning the individual partials in unique locations throughout the space. And visually, this work builds upon the way in which colour is perceived in relation to a psychologically inferred impression of depth and space.
